Who Is Corban Skipwith?
Corban Skipwith โ known across the internet as The Serpent Tongue and dailyserpenttongue94 โ is an Australian music critic, enthusiast, and one of underground hip-hop's most committed voices. Born in 1994, based in Australia, writing since 2024.
His entry point back into the genre was visceral and personal: Westside Gunn, described by Corban as "a man who resurrected the love of the genre to me." Griselda became a turning point. From there, the dam broke โ and over 1,261 reviews followed.
His all-time favourite rap group? A Tribe Called Quest. His influences span Westside Gunn, JPEGMAFIA, Mos Def, Busta Rhymes, and Death Grips โ a constellation that maps exactly to his taste: eclectic, committed, no-hype-required.
"One of my favourite aspects of doing these reviews is watching certain artists and producers thrive and evolve."
Featured on the THHC Podcast, Episode 287, where he was called "one of hip-hop's most compelling new voices in criticism." Australian metal band Grand Magus dubbed him "our Australian Brother Corban Skipwith." Artists reach out. Artists repost. The work speaks.

The Mission
Why This Exists
This isn't a publication chasing ad revenue or algorithmic approval. There's no editorial calendar, no PR embargo, no star rating committee. The Serpent Tongue Reviews exists because the music demands it โ and because the underground deserves the same passionate, rigorous attention the mainstream drowns in.
The writing is personal because the music is personal. Every review carries the fingerprint of a real listener, a genuine fan, someone who bought the tape before it had press. The enthusiasm is real. The opinions are earned.
"Man, I was so excited... as soon as I saw the name and the album cover I knew I'd love it."
Every year, the Serpent Tongue Awards crown the best of the best โ a year-end wrap-up that's part celebration, part documentation, all love.
