This is a man who I discovered not too long ago and one I normally base my opinion from his killer singles and various features! A definite MC who I feel was waiting for his ‘big break’ record to flood the culture with and I feel this could be it! So with more power than 1.21 gigawatts we have
(1000 Watts)
This is the brand new album by MC Benny Watts! It consists of Production from
-Sypooda
-Homage
-Kuen
-Nar
-Ramenlechuga
-Jimmy Dukes
With features from
-Lukey Cage
-Daniel Son
-Fuego Base
-Snotty
-Car Mafia Obi Wan
-SK
-Michael Millions
A big roster for a big album and one that is sure to electrify!
Let’s discuss the production aspect first. As listed above this one has plenty of names to make instrumentals and each bring their own intensity and identity to the stage while somehow blending each song into a fluent score that makes this whole album flow seemingly smooth!
I feel like it was incredibly fitting to have the intro interlude dictated by none other than -Lukey Cage AKA ‘SkitGod’ I ain’t the biggest fan of skits but on this occasion the way he orchestrated himself over that delicate looped based track with that luscious vocal harmony, arrangement of various strings and slow paced drums boosted his voice 10x fold! Such a dope way to kick off a record!
We can talk on the track -Soul For Sale where we hear Benny (And Daniel-Son) embrace their gritty heavy boom Bap influence in stylish fashion! This track is as raw as can be with its unholy set of sharp synth chords, souless piano keys, devastating bass lines and some of the heaviest drums you’ll hear in life.
This is the type of track to turn a civilian into a full fledged hustler for the duration of the track and to hear Daniel Son blessing the chorus with his iconic street tone makes it that much cleaner!
We can even talk the track -Code De Triche this one felt like a fairytale turned street shit! Those glistening keys reminds me of a fantasy film but combined with those thudding drums with that feature of ridiculous bass chords this quickly turns into a ghetto anthem that brings with it two of the hottest spitters in the area right now!
Of course that’s referring to Car-Mafia Obi Wan and SK! They help maintain and elevate the energy of the instrumental with their strong performances and chemistry with Benny!
Speaking of the man. I find it an interesting study of comparing an MC who I’m mostly use to covering in singles form and hearing him in full LP action the difference in demeanour, depth and determination that comes along with it. Especially when you consider the caliber of MC that he is it makes a full length effort that much more impressive!
Across this 14 track effort we see Benny provide what could very well be his strongest verses to date. His confidence is at an all time high! His heart is on his sleeve and his vivid voice and penmanship leaves little the imagine in situations that feel so real it makes you question if you weren’t just teleported there yourself!
He’s orchestrated himself like a late 90’s/early 2000’s era hiphop album from the small amount of skits and intro interlude scattered throughout. To the banger production that is both parts various and binding to each other and the inclusion of the few powerhouse MC’s attributed to the record! This is almost like a homage to that golden era that we all remember so fondly! If I had to name my favourite feature on this record I’d have to say -Snotty!
Although each artist KILLED the MC spot his was the one that spoke to me the best!
This is how you should construct your album! A strong intro, strong outro, quality features and a linear/flowing production with a solid main MC! This has everything you could want and more. Definitely don’t be sleeping on this one unless you want the 1000 WATT ELECTRIC CHAIR!
