Man, this man has more alias than fucking Mick Foley! I’ve known him as -Bar Samyaza -Solomon Goodeson And now -Alta Mensa. Hey as far as I’m concerned it’s just a sign of a great creative mind to be able to exhibit themselves in this manner! So let’s talk about it! This is the 2024 album by MC’s Bar Samyaza and Cursive Cain and Producer Osland Blanc! 7 songs 18 minutes of content. So, first things is first. Let’s discuss the topic of ‘MC DYNAMICS’ a fun and obviously necessary discussion to have when talking any album and on this one we get to see just how the duo of Cursive and Bar go together and I’m here to report (in their unusual structures) they do really well! I say unusual because on some tracks like Track 3 it’s just Cain, one Track 4 it’s both! And on the others it’s just Bars. This type of loose, no rhyme or reason set up definitely adds to the interesting listening experience and helps us get a glimpse of this new artist Cain and what he’s capable on, how he performs and on one of the tracks how he meshes with the lyrics of Bar and their chemistry together! They have the one, two step shit locked down together and a fascinating look into two unique studio cadences when alone! Keep in mind there are 7 tracks on here and he’s only on two. So it’s not like we are getting a large dose of Cain but for what he does have and bring to the table he definitely amplifies the record while Bar does his usual smooth and introspective verses that forced your brain to interpret every sentence and word he delivers! When we discuss the production Side of things we return to a man who has definitely been a driving force in Bars career so far and familiar in mine! Of course that’s -Osland and as seems to be his usual bag he brings to the forefront these classically inspired art rap instrumentals that feel thrilling and surreal with a hint of cinematic! None says this more then -Codebook Excerpt which reminds me of a James Bond score! You’ve got those deep horns in that lucid pattern combined with those hypnotic drum work, thick bass and an overall tense atmosphere that I really loved! The song -Licks and Mortar made me feel Like I was teleported to a cult film surrounded by mythical creatures and gods. From that truly eerie vocal choir harmony that’s associated with those no nonsense drum work, thick bass and the edition of those sharp and raw strings that feel like a thunder bolt from Zeus being thrown down! There’s even the track -Last Action Hero which is portraying the most ‘boom Bap’ inspired track On the whole album. You’ve got the combination of those sickeningly deep bass strings, mesmerising drum patterns, some light violin work in the background and a pretty dope intro that helps set the tone of the whole instrumental! Definitely an intriguing release by a one of a kind artist who seems to create special every time! Go tune in now!
