Man, what an exciting day. Because yet again I’m exposed to a new artist I’ve never heard of! To be able to explore the fresh talent in the underground field is always something I look forward to. Alongside an MC I’ve had experience with before and we have a project that might surprise the culture! Let’s talk about it! This is the brand new collaboration EP release by MC -Seth Narley and Producer -Creestal and this pair drop a steady 4 track 7 minute listening experience that I feel will turn heads in all the best ways. Let’s start with the lyrical side of things, as I return to absorb the music of Seth I get to see a man who is equal parts smooth and confident. He’s a rapper who utilises his smooth and steady flow and combined it with some of the more introspective and thought provoking bars to create songs that make your mind wonder as you listen track to track. It’s a combination of brash traditional hip hop language and personalised sentences that feel vulnerable in the way he pronounces them! Lyrics about people in his life, the way he uses his emotional state to elevate his words and give them more weight. The way he’s able to let his pen breathe. On some tracks he’s say a bar then just let the instrumental takeover for a few seconds and that shows me he’s careful and appreciates the art of ‘patience’ which is something far too lost in today’s landscape. It’s interesting just how much content and direction you can ask a rapper to bring in such a small time span. His bars feel less written and more organically felt and distributed to us the fanbase via the mic. As if he’s just walking into the booth and rapping whatever he feels necessary to talk about in that moment and that kind of relaxed, secure and comfortable atmosphere is something that’s always refreshing to hear and encouraged in my mind! Speaking of secure and comfortable atmosphere we have the new comer (at least to me) in the producer -Creestal. Someone who I can safely say impressed me with his beat performances on this one and so let’s just down together to explain why! So first track -…Jordan On The Baseline which might be my favourite track of the four has this incredible vocal sample that runs through the track that I adored a lot! On top of that we have these lush Jazz horns in that semi repetitive loop that’s also combined with some rhythmic drums and a variety of chord progressions that make this song feel like it has an element of 80’s soul to it! On the second track -2 Thousand On The Knicks the 80’s Soul comparison continues as we start the track off with this James Brown sounding vocal piece that translates into a instrumental that features plucked strings, thick bass, thudding drum beats, organ chords and a consistent chop up vocal snippet that is scattered throughout the track that I loved! Every part of this song as chaotic as it might feel comes together seemingly flawless! On the third track -Unplugged From Marseille we have probably the most memorable intro of the lot with a snippet (or very well done edit of one) of an award ceremony with cheering and clapping! Such a unique way to start a track off and that leads into the full fledged song that has those delicate jazz style piano keys, minimal drums that acts as the heart beat of the song! As well as a light usage of strings that just lightly brush across the layers to create an extra touch of rhythm and sensuality! Definitely the most minimal track on the whole EP but a fantastic performance none the less! On the finale track -Celia Cruz & Gloria Estefan we have a more upbeat and lively track with a combination of those high strung chord progressions, very light piano keys and to my surprise there was a hint of electric guitar strings! At least at the start. There’s also some hint of bass that can be felt if you pay attention enough! I love the continuous use of piano keys until the very end of the track the way it rides off? So smooth and spectacular All in all for 7 minutes? It’s definitely a bang for your buck. You’ve got the potential of the producer killing it on the music front and the return of Seth showing us why he should be the one to look out for! Let me know what you think!
