For Monday to Sunday, I continue to find endless content. The underground is like an endless void of creative minds and original ideas that can’t be contained into a box. I’m closer with this produced than I am with anyone else in the underground, and the MC? Well, that’s what I’m here to find out: is he dope enough to warrant the attention of the serpent? The verdict: Yes! Let’s talk about it! This is the brand-new collaboration album between MC -Eminencee and Producer -Dev Rogers, and together they drop a solid 10-track just shy of half an hour project that sees the current trends and lanes and decides to U-turn and do its own thing! This is unlike most of the shit you hear these days, and that’s a good thing! Why? Even on Dev’s standards, this thing is atmospheric as hell! With Dev, I’m used to either the toughest boom-bap tracks you’ve heard in your life or an array of the most gorgeous jazz instrumentals you’ve heard in your life! But this? This one feels like a batch that’s inspired by the likes of -OddFuture/-Milo; it’s cerebral, mellow, damn near lo-fi in presence, and I’m all for it! For example, take the track -Mj Cousin with those deliciously waving chord progressions that’s combined with those sharp strings and eventual heavy bass, subtle drums, and that muffled yet beautiful vocal harmonies! Truly a gem of a track with the most grooviest of elements! What about the track -Car Got Happy Feet? This one might be my favourite beat of the whole lot. I love that heavy, surreal aura this track provides. You’ve got those muffled chord progressions that fade in and out in volume, making you feel like you’re listening to the beat underwater! There’s also some hubris drums and some more thick bass that wraps the whole track together! Although this one has fewer layers than the previous one, it’s just as sensual in its execution! There are tracks like -Superman, which has more of a boom-bap quality to it with those aggressive piano keys and thudding jazz horns! This one feels like if Miles Davis turned gangsta and made a hip-hop song! It’s so fucking devilish! I love those ridiculous skeletal drums and hypnotic strings that remind me of kind of GZA’s Liquid Swords album! Also, the various adlibs are chaotic as hell! As far as the MC work goes, he’s just as mellow and organic as the production. He ain’t on no wild, over-the-top shit; he’s just letting the vibe of his charisma and interesting pen work do the job! He’s a man who sounds as comfortable as possible in the booth while bearing his soul to the listener. Whether that be his craving to just sit at home and be lazy and watch anime (I feel that) or his more brash bars showing off his skill or his more personal verses, he’s a man who feels like he just chooses what’s on his mind to spit in the booth at any given moment, and I think that’s a dope perspective! It feels less like bars and more like his own experiences and conscious coming out to engage and enlighten the audience at home! His relaxed flow combined with his in-depth penmanship makes for a very infectious and honest connection on the track. His lyricism reminds me of acts like -Open Mike Eagle or -Quelle Chris! Men who just sound like they have something interesting to tell the audience and are itching to share the story (that just so happens to rhyme). There are all kinds of moments from non-stop bar work to melodically charged choruses to whimsical wordplay where he sounds like a man sitting in an empty field on a Saturday afternoon with the sun out just enjoying life! He provides it all on this album, and it’s so fun to listen to! So, whether it’s Monday and you just started work for the week or it’s Saturday and you’re relaxing, this should be a must-listen to! These two have a sick chemistry that I know you’ll love! Peep it out now!
