Crazy how time flies and what’s even more crazy is the concept and execution of this album! Let’s talk about why. This is the brand new album by MC -XtraCompIX and Producer -Jester Exodus and together they come jam packed with 13 hot tracks with the likes of -Nate Nasty -Gamblez Tha Lucky Bastard -LIL GHO$T -Space Kase -Zak Tovin and with these 5 features they come lock and locked ready to cause some musical havoc across this track! If we start with the production value. When we dissect tracks such as -Darkside which really lives up to it’s title name with that creepy introduction of what I initially thought was heavy breathing but I think was more of a scratching, clawing or sawing sound going back and fourth! A truly insane way to set a track up! As the song progresses, we get these swaying keys that feel magnified in proportion to normal keys to match the huge aura of the song that’s also combined with systematic drums and this shrieking sound that I can’t really identify but one that adds a layer of texture to the track! There’s tracks such as -No Problemo which has this organically funky atmosphere to it with those loud and vibrant sounds making it’s waves throughout the song! For example there’s elements such as that high pitch trumpet in all it’s magnificent glory that’s accompanied by some lavish and groovy keys, thick bass and a rhythmic drum pattern that adds layers of warmth and layer to the track that I absolutely adored! We can even discuss the track -ReBirth which has this tense and theatrical vibe to it with those opening notes of fast paced chord progressions that make you feel like your in a thriller chase scene running for your life! Accompanied by some haunting bass in the background for extra terror this track uses its interlude to stir fear into the listener before unleashing the track as a whole! When the song finally awakens it comes with a combination of sickening drum/plucked string alliances that makes you grind your face up at the track in that mean mugging fashion! As far as the MC work goes and based on the various experience I had with Xtra prior to this I must say he left me with a new respect for this work. Why? Because not only was he able to utilise that mixed bag of instrumentals and influences to his advantage but his actual performances and style is unlike many others! He brings to the table a sense of fast paced, skilful urgency cadence. Kind of like in between a speedster and a cipher rapper. He’s always spitting bar after bar in quick succession, blowing minds with his complicated and complex structure of wordplay, his extraordinary penmanship and his knowledge filled cadence that makes everything he spits feel that much more noteworthy! Of course he’s not alone on this project. Bringing with him the 5 musketeers ready to fight by his side and help slay the beats in front of them! From powerhouses like Gamblez to the familiar dominating style of Kase to the newer names I’ve only now acquired from this record each name brings their own version of Stella craft and delivery that helps elevate the specific tracks they were on!
