Wolves Don’t Wear Collars

It’s been a year since we heard a new record by the man. An MC that I’d define as ‘severely underrated’ back in the early 2020’s when Umbrella were putting a triangle choke on the game it was undeniable how sharp and murderous he was a spitter. But I feel too many have forgotten the caliber of rapper this man really is and this write up is to remind you motherfuckers just who he is! Let’s go! This is the brand new blockbuster by MC and Umbrella Collective Solider -Snotty who is accompanied by Producer -GoodPhella and together they come strong with this 11 track offering with the likes of -Daniel Son -BeenOfficialLord -Mvck Nyce -Pro Dillinger And man this one feels like a grand score you’d expect Martin Scorsese to work on! 26 minutes of masterful execution that turns your life into a theatrical release that you can’t escape until the last second ends. If we discuss the production aspect first we see GoodPhella arguably on his most crisp, lush and passion work he’s done yet. It doesn’t feel like a record it feels like a soundtrack to the streets done in an introspective setting. Whether you’re talking about tracks like -Mad(e)off where we hear that ambient brilliance with that long winded sharp chord that runs through the entitreity of the song! Which in and of itself is combined with those hypnotic drums that make you relive a new memory with each hit laid down. Those two elements have some bass to wrap it all up and those subtle piano keys that shimmer right into your subconscious! We have tracks like -Lemonade which utilised those swift vocal snippets that loop across the entire instrumental in that dream like fashion. Accompanied by some methodically grand drum work and more light delicate keys in the background! A truly mesmerising song! I find the song -Flush The Dope really compelling because it’s a mix between the classic production we are use to from Umbrella and still maintaining a tad bit of soft and mellow influences! From those echoing chords that appear every 3-4 seconds and takeover the track. More commanding drum work and thick bass to keep your face mean mugging! As far as the MC part goes. I personally will never get sick of hearing Snotty. I’ve been a fan since I first heard him a few years ago and my love for his work hasn’t ever shifted. He’s a street MC who can create such a vivid story using his wordplay that you almost feel guilty over shit he’s talking about making you feel like you’re the one he’s describing! A true hustler in every sense of the word and he knows how to portray himself and what he’s been through! Trademark solid wordplay, sharp lyricism with his grimy, in your face presentation and studio presence that feels menacing! Every new word he spits makes you feel like he’s standing on his local street corner spitting bars in the middle of handing out bags! Like a real life GTA character whose skill is to rap! On this one he does feel a tad bit more aware, focused and keen on giving a personal touch to his verses and stories. Maybe he’s getting wiser in his older age? Maybe he’s trying to give off the ‘cautionary tales’ rather than the bragging rhymes we would have heard 2 years ago! Maybe that’s why this album is called ‘Wolves Don’t Wear Collars’ because other he’s calmed himself down doesn’t mean the hustler in him will ever be silenced! The features on here are grand also! Banger after banger. In fact besides -BeenOfficial it’s all fellow Umbrella members and they all bring the house down! As well as Been! My favourite feature has to be from Pro! A lot of those new cats don’t understand the GRIP these two had on the culture 5 years ago and the gems they dropped as a collaborative effort and it’s a chemistry I’ll never get sick of hearing! So, grab yourself a 40 (or in my case a 4 pack of Japanese vodka apple Bento 8%) sit back and enjoy a one of a kind album by a one of a kind duo!
