This is an exciting time for me to be returning to this artist. I first discovered him working alongside the one and only -DeevoDaGenius and with that record under his belt I immediately put him on my radar and now we land here. A record that I guarantee will leave a strong impression on the audience and imprint on the culture! Let’s talk about it! This is the brand new album by MC -4FIVE6 NICE and Producers -A1 Beatz -J Lullaby -Thesshabo And with no rap features in sight this one is focused entirely on the performance of 4Five and let me tell you now, he does not disappoint! If we begin with the man himself. We hear a rapper who is literally wearing his heart on his sleeve. I feel the name of the record speaks volumes to his conviction and mentality going into this one! We hear him more passionate and heartfelt then I have yet. He lets his powerful toned voice combined with his extensive vocabulary that’s sprinkled with some wise street poetry that is filled with warnings, fables and stories of his experience in the world! When he talks about the street, the drug life and violence it sounds less like bragging and more like cautionary tales of mistakes he hopes the young generation won’t have to make. I love how he utilises these vivid moments with his obvious skill in word placement, crisp flow, a strong sense of enunciation and delivery to make sure each sentence hits the way it should to really pack a punch for the audience! This performance of his feels alot more serious and doubled down then it was on the last joint. I feel like become the role of ‘leader’ in the sense of trying to spread a positive narrative through his own life and consequences and using hip hop as the platform to do it! Again, I love he’s rocking this joint solo. No interference or distraction from his message just pure, unfiltered energy that’s sparked directly through his speech and it really was a captivating listen from front to back! When we discus the production side of things we hear that small handful of names come together and create a fun and engaging atmosphere that blends well with the lane of lyricism that 4FIVE was rocking with! Whether we are talking about the track -Drug Deal Or Scam in where we hear this 1980’s Synth Pop inspired beat that fused with the modern day hip hop scene! You’ve got those electronically plucked chords in the background that’s combined with those synth strings and minimal drum patterns that acts as the sonic Skelton across the track. There’s also a subtle usage of some glistening keys in the background that adds a light texture to the song! There’s the song -Derek’s Diary which feels like a pull from the early 2000’s and has one of the more sombre feels on the album. It contains those acoustic style piano keys that’s combined with some traditional hip hop beat pattern with some thick bass added in-between! this also has some light vocal harmony sprinkled in to add a level of depth to the song! The song -In My Pocket lowkey reminded me of the intro to Kenny Omega’s theme song! -Battle Cry! You’ve got those same building synths style keys that loop in the track that is combined with some 808 reminiscent beats with what sounds like some extremely high pitch vocal snippets that goes throughout the track! A truly epic track! Overall, another fantastic showing by 4FIVE. This is him at a more grounded and equally dynamic pace and I think a lot of not all of you will fuck with it and the sounds he brought with him!
