After already covering his most recent work, I felt I had to backtrack and explore this one. See what kind of vibes his music outside of Dev Rogers would be hitting on! Thankfully, I did because just like that one, this one slaps just as hard! Let’s talk about it! On this EP, we have MC -Bar Samyaza and Producer - Metaphysicz, and they collectively drop six tracks with just under 20 minutes of content and once again, no features! Like an absolute boss! The first thing that hit me in the face was his lyrical matter. Unlike the other one, he feels a lot more focused this time around, narrowing down his thoughts, frustrations, and anger into one point! ‘Society As A Whole’, you can tell he’s fed up, and he literally states in the EP ‘I wish I could kill 90% of you’. That’s a level of pissed off that feels genuine and powerful, and with the way the world is going right now, who can blame him? It fascinates me that Bar is heard facing multiple different angles in his life at this point. From the visceral hatred for the ones he feels responsible for ruining the culture and world to his deep and philosophical takes on life, his own self-worth, and human nature as a whole. Another line that stands out when he said ‘Life is a stage and I’m a terrible actor’ statements like that tell me all I need to know about his mental state in the moment of this recording! Of course, these takes and ideas come with a stunningly immersive flow, methodical pacing that gives this EP an almost biblically surreal edge that made me hang on his every word. Very similar to how the legendary ‘KA’ used to do it. Slow and steady, making each word he spit feel like bars of intellectual gold you had to pay attention to. The same performance and perspective here is done as tastefully and extraordinarily as one can ask for! As far as the production side of things, we have -Metaphysicz who found a way to take this incredibly deep lyricism and make the sonic counterparts to his delivery, and man, talk about synchronicity! From tracks like -Updraft that has this sombre expression to it with those distorted vocal harmonies on a tragic loop combined with some delicate piano keys, thick bass, and a trademark hip-hop drum beat that helps wrap the whole track together! There’s also this gorgeous use of flute that’s attached to the track that I absolutely adored. Imagine this behind the lyrics I just described? Yeah, it’s that compelling. What about the track -touchdown? With those eerier, sharp strings that’s combined with those haunting piano keys, thudding drums in that chilling loop, as well as what sounds like a painful vocal cord deep into the background! This is the kind of track that makes you sit there upright on the side of your bed looking at the bottle of henney and pistol next to you on the side table, thinking nothing but dark thoughts! Terrifying vibe! Or we can even discuss -Cyclic Supercell that honestly has a bit of a shrieking sci-fi feel to it! I can’t describe what that is, a sharp synth chord that is wavering in and out? It’s some straight alien ship combined with some nu-metal style drum breaks that has me real confused somewhere between wanting to run away from a UFO invasion and pop lock! Definitely a bizarre track that I fuck with all the same! I’m glad these two came together for this. In under 20 minutes, they showcased more creativity and originality than most! Make sure you check it out below!
