Fuk Off Me: Unapologetic

You know, sometimes you’ll come across an artist that is so far field that it isn’t even fair to compare him to the rest. The coverage of his album I reviewed still says imbedded into my mind and now he’s back for a second round of creative chaos that is a cinematic three part series expressing the pain, the misery and the climb out of said situations. So with that all in mind I present to you ‘Fuk Off Me: Unapologetic’ This is the brand new album by MC -T.O. Lestat and has production from -T.O. Lestat -Imminent The Strategic Mind -JSlugg -Tony Slaps and Features from -Lil T As explained in the intro. This album follows three parts Act I: The Mask (which is the longest of the Acts) Act II: The Collapse and Act III: The Awareness Each Act has its own variety of interludes and spoken word passage that deal in different mindsets of T.O. At the time of the recordings. He says regarding this record that focuses on ‘a person trying to remove the accumulated weight of trauma, judgment, homelessness, addiction, estrangement, and internal chaos long enough to recover a stable sense of self And that’s why each Act has its own purpose, sound and meaning! On the production basis. I’d say the underlying premise is rooted in this heavy, raw and distorted experimental tier of boom Bap that’s laced with furious instrumentation and dark vibes! I mean just take the first track of -T.ø. Lestat! That sinister trap atmosphere with those haunting piano keys combined with those vicious drum beats and thudding bass! I love how even with just these few elements he can create a devastating nature that pumps the listener with adrenaline! Or if we deep dive into Act: II with tracks like -Mfin Fly Guy as we get into as he describes ‘An Unsolved mystery’ type beat. It’s exactly as he says! In this one we have what sounds like a lavish flute sample combined with those plucked bass strings, hypnotic drums and some ghoulish piano keys that glisten in the background! A truly supernatural experience! Hell, we can go into Act: III with the finale track -Tales Of T.ø. (Believe) which might be the smoothest cut on the whole record. Feels like the ultimate ‘reset’ sound. You’ve got those mesmerising violin strings with those sterile drum beats, what sounds like a plucked chord progression in the background that has a foreign influence to it. A true phoenix rising from the ashes type vibe that I found infectious as hell to listen to! Each Act provides its own variation of escalating intensity that mirrors the cycle T.ø. Himself is going through with his own feelings recording this album! As far as the performances are concerned this is where T.ø shines in his originality. No one and I mean NO ONE sounds like him or even comes close. He has his own unique blend of psychotic tendencies with his own vivid emotions to create a listening experience then feels more like a man in his room spazzing and venting then it does a usual recorded studio session! Just like I found from his last album. He’s never one to water down. These three acts are not just ideas or concepts they are based on his REAL LIFE and so it’s only natural that the personification of the wording would sound as heavy and direct as it is here! From the very beginning in Act I that builds across the entire record we hear the mindset that he’s in, the frustration and the stripped back layers bubbling to the surface. That same energy is what he maintains throughout the entirety of the album in all its parts! Barely a a second to breathe as he bares his soul and all his trials and tribulations for us to see, hear and feel. I personally love these kinds of performances. Not in the fact that of enjoying someone’s pain and suffering but in the purity of it all. Just unrivalled tension and organic and untapped power is something in albums I dedicate to find! Not to mention T.ø’s relentless flow that can strike from any angle and position on the track! His in depth and dynamic range of lyricism that forces the listener to soak in and feel every single word he drops because of how descriptive and explosive it all feels to the ear! Taps into your soul like acute apathy driven straight into the audience’s heart! I did also like the fact there’s only one feature on here in -Lil. T he was able to hold up the atmosphere set by T.ø in that opening interlude. As I mentioned already it set the tone for the rest of the album and the other various skits along the way! Also smart not to have anyone ruin and probably ultimately fail to match the chemistry of T.ø himself! Look, I think he’s more than fair to say that no one in the game will ever make a record as grief stricken and powerful as this one. Just like no one did with his original album I covered! He has a certain gift with story telling and wearing his tattered heart on his sleeve that makes the most compelling of music that just happens to be infused with hip hop! This is an album everyone should tune into!
