Man, talk about coming back in OVERKILL! First of all anytime this man drops it’s going to be an event. But to see the names he brought with him! Shit ain’t even fair. A powerhouse recruiting a couple dozen powerhouses! This shit is about to blow everything else away. Let’s talk about it! This is the brand new album by notorious MC -Mondo Slade with Production by -King Rem -Minister Hyde -Finn -Wino Willy -Work Scorsese -True Cipher -BackwoodsMuzik And Features from -Estee Nack -Borirock -Top Hooter -Sean Links -Poetic.Nes And will only 28 minutes of content and 11 tracks this one is stacked to the max. To say Mondo brought it would be the biggest understatement possible. What I love about this record is its mysteriousness. This one feels like a dark acid trip through the Wizard of Oz! So many of the tunes have this eerie, magical feeling to it that makes this record feel less like a hip hop album and more like an intense RPG simulation that you can’t escape! Take that track -Everything with those dreamy piano keys in that wizardry element! Those are combined with those hypnotic drum beats and thick bass! This instrumental sounds like a witches brew turned sonic! And Estee is the big bad dragon final boss that destroys everything in its path! The song -Dynoman feels like the audio equivalent of a Dark Souls level! Those sharp distorted strings are like the one shot kill enemies that spawn around the map. Those haunting vocal snippets are the traps and falls that scatter the floors and ceilings of the dungeons! Those intense drums? The amount of times you’re forced to die before you can progress to the next stage. Top Hooter? The stage boss that you could challenge 1000x over and never even land a scratch. He’s been the OG for years and no amount of game genies or cheat sheets would help stop him! What about the track -Bombs Away? Talk about thrilling! This shit feels like the old NES ‘Ghouls and Ghost’ from that Dracula organ introduction that evolves into that blend of shimmering piano keys in the background and those heavy drums! Just like the game just when you think you’ve beaten the track it’s all just a trick! It takes you right back to the start to do it all again! Borirock? Yeah he’s the boss you thought you beat until he used his ultimate ZINGER power and forced you to restart the level! I absolutely adored Mondo’s performances on this one. Why? Because it sounded like he was having fun with this theme of games and the supernatural! Sometimes an artist will provide a cool concept but then act like they are above performing in that same style themselves and just let the music do all the talking. Nah not Slade! He’s down in the trenches with that game references, utilising the various over the top cinematic and storytelling! Inviting the top spitters in the industry to follow his lead and everyone involved comes together for 28 of the most nerdy yet exciting minutes of hip hop you’ll hear all year! He sounds like a teenager finally being able to create his fantasy ‘magnum opus’ his verses are eccentric and passionate! His delivery powerful and charismatic and his wordplay is full of puns and one liners, pop culture references and more! I feel like this could be his most defining album to date based on the quality and style choices alone! He’s really giving his all to make the topics and influenced come alive and that combined with the league of production and what they made possible this is this perfect dream team! Whether it be on his serious shit or his more creative endures no one can deny Mondo’s abilities on the mic and those abilities shine ten fold on this record! Combine that with the S+ Tier producers and guest features and you have a passion project that can’t be beaten! You won’t want to miss on this one!
