Well, talk about a change of pace. It’s very rare I get to step out of the underground hip hop scene and cover a different genre and to those who really know me understand my love for Metal! It’s hand in hand with my love for Hip Hop and so with that in mind it’s time to cover this brand badass new single! This is a brand new track by band -Slowly Drowning it consists of Vocalist -V O I D Guitarist -NULL Drummer -Brett Martin And this trio come together to create this absolutely atmospheric and gorgeous 5 minute track that honestly took me to a different plane of consciousness for the duration of the track, actually took me a few listens before I could snap back and properly write my review and not just fade off into the distance! Firstly, if we talk the sound aesthetics we have this blend of Darkened MetalCore mixed with Alt Rock! So I suppose imagine a more intense version of Sleeping With Sirens meets Black Veil Brides with a sprinkle of HIM thrown in for the dramatic effect in the production! I love how the song starts with that subtle hip hop influence with those rap style breaks that is combined with that synth style bass chords which later evolves into this more metal sounding instrumental with that methodically charged drum work and angelic chord progressions that take away any feelings of stress with each string played! The fact that is track is 5 minutes long is mind blowing to me. With each replay I’m shocked 5 minutes has passed! It’s so grand yet minimal somehow in the same breath. One thing I love is how the guitar work can go from electric to acoustic in such a seemingly effortless fashion! No awkward transition or clunky movement just fluent rhythm all the way through! Also the final 30 seconds or so with that vocal aspect to ride the track off? Absolutely brilliant. As far as the vocals go? The singing feels like an extension of sadness, redemption and guilt. Done so in this soft clean singing style that suits the mood and atmosphere of the track! What I love about this man is his ability to do both beautifully sung clean and throughout the track more heavy death growl/screams to compliment the rise of intensity in the instrumentation it self! The versatility of this man is incredible because it’s showcased in a more subdue in the sense of getting the 95% proper pure singing then the 5% raw and rugged growls to add that little bit of texture to the song and that method I feel was the best way to go for this track! All in all Man, what a fantastic effort by everyone involved. It was refreshing, heartfelt and felt passionate! Definitely worth checking out!
