Talk about a return to form! After their blockbuster drop not that long ago I didn’t think we’d get a brand new effort this soon but I’m all the happier for it! A producer who I consider a brother and a MC who brings his own lethal energy to the mix and when you combine that you know what you get? MORE BLOOD This is the sequel EP between MC -GRVNOLA and Producer Dev Rogers. These two drop another fresh batch of 7 tracks lasting 15 minutes and 24 seconds. It features the likes of -Tetri$ -Era Breaux -ICECOLDBISHOP Now contrary to the name of the album I actually find this a more mellow ‘calm after the storm’ type sequel. I feel like they are trying to ride the audience off in the most poetic and smooth way possible! The intro track -Ibex kicks that narrative off immediately with that sensual vocal loop that (as the MC says himself) gives chills up your spine! A truly gorgeous performance to utilise. Accompanied by some high pitch synth style chords and light strings to help maintain the flow of the track Or what about the track -No Exceptions. Another minimal score filled with a more surreal/vocal loop combined with some more strings and mesmerising drum work that makes this feel like smoking a joint on a beach in the 1980’s! There’s even the track -Gunism which sounds like the Boom Bap equivalent of Buddhism! It’s got this gorgeous harmony using those luscious sparkling keys combined with those violent strings and methodically paced drums! This is the type of track you’d want to hear in your dreams every night! There’s also a light use of choir style voices but it’s super subtle! BUT When you think the track is done it switches up into this slightly faster instrumental consisting of these loud chord progressions and bass notes! Definitely wasn’t expecting that but give it to Dev to give the audience a surprise! As far as the MC work goes, we of course have the man himself -GRVNOLA who comes back with his trademark Swift, sharp and sweet blend of surreal and strong performances that makes you feel like you just had a small dose of caffeine! Nothing too insane but just enough buzz to keep you on your toes and ready to tackle the day! I love how he’s able to blend the different aspects of his studio cadence. From his brash and cocky talk to his more expressive and open lyricism talking about seeing the world, spending money and what not. I’d say tone wise similar to the likes of a -Sabio Dub but with a hint more aggression in his wordplay to give him that edge! Across these 7 tracks he helps push a sonic landscape that is eccentric and powerful and lush all in one! I also love how he handles himself with the features! Solid chemistry, incredible bar work between them and utilising Dev’s incredible production to a tee! Great choices to have on this more minimalist EP! If you enjoyed the first one then no doubt you’ll love this one! It’s Jam packed with flavour and of course most importantly MORE BLOOD!
