I’ll give this guy props. (From working on the last album I covered of his) his ability to reinforce and bring to life a certain culture, experience or theme to an unrivalled immersive extent. I feel this time he’s hit an even higher note then before and the culture is about to witness a listening experience unlike any other we’ve heard yet! With that in mind let’s get into it!
This is the brand new album by MC -Mic Mountian and Producers
-Mr Scratch Hook
-Goliath Kong
-DNA Beatz
And various features from
-Krook Rock
-Jay David
-La Bori Dee
-Duendy
-The Microphone Prince
-DJ Exes
-CrDnlSn
-Powerule
-Thirstin Howl the 3rd
-Cynical Minded
-Sacx One
-Paco Loco
And with this huge set of names on this card and an obvious homage paid to the Puerto Rican culture as described in the Bandcamp from the song titles and the dedication to ‘Paco Loco’ this one is just rich with history, heritage and hip hop!
Right from the very opening of the album with that intro? You get an understanding of the sonic influences and vibes Mic is going for! It feels like a fucking party in your headphones! It feels like a BBQ & Drink up on a nice summers day surrounded by family and friends! With that traditional Puerto Rican flavour from those groovy sharp chords, light drums and heavy bass! A party on steroids! You couldn’t have asked for a better intro!
As the album continues you get cuts like -Pineapple Pique which again feels like a classic gathering surrounded by loved one who just want to dance and drink! Honestly listening to this had me moving my body at my work table just grooving all by myself!
I love those delicious piano keys that’s combined with those hypnotic drum patterns and more thick bass!
On this track it features -DJ Exes who helps provide an extra layer of shine to the instrumental!
Man if I wasn’t at work on my lunch break I’d definitely break out a bottle and dance my ass all the way home! I love this vibe
Hell, what about the track -Sangría which feels like a more sophisticated Latino dance track! With this one you have a bit more of a subtle touch with what sounds like xylophone taps in that lush loop combined with that light strings in the background and some shakers on the left or right of the track!
This one feels more like a stroll through the neighbourhood while eating some of the cultures most popular food just indulging in the local atmosphere! I love it!
I must re emphasise how impressed I am at how much he’s embraced and added his culture into this record. I have to admit because the artists I listen to I don’t know much about puerto rica! But this album makes me want to study, learn and find a way to participate in what makes that territory so special and sought after and Mic does an absolutely perfect job in doing the sonic equivalent of feeding the listeners the virtual tour!
From his consistent bi lingual performances to his passionate verses that are engrained in the culture itself. He utilises the features to help push that narrative and saturate the audience with a colorful, engaging and empowering score that will make you feel like you’ve teleported to the area yourself!
I love his fluent and confident tone and approach on the records! You can tell he’s in his element and that he’s crafted a soundtrack for his life, priorities and character and it’s fucking beautiful to hear!
On this album depending on the track he’s talking about a different aspect of his personality and life experience. He sounds like he’s right there in the heart of Puerto Rica with a microphone surrounded by locals giving him the energy and passion to create such authentic and meaningful verses that pair so fucking well with the instrumentation!
I can’t stress enough. From the song names, to the well crafted features to the tribute paid to the man and Mic’s performance ms this one may as well be the beating heart of Puerto Rico. Yes I understand I’ve said that word a lot in this review and that’s because it’s important! It’s the root of this record and it would be disrespectful not to constantly remind the readers what this album is all about!
I doubt you’ll find a record as heartfelt as you have on this one!
