I SHOULD’VE BEEN A HORSEMEN

This is one of those moments where I completely forgot about an upcoming project and went ‘holy shit!’ That’s right, this is coming! A duo that by all accounts should ignite the culture by following a trend the underground has cultivated for years now, which is ‘wrestling’, and in that respect, let’s discuss one of the most dynamic drops of 2026! This is the brand-new album by MC Heartbreak Julio and producer Dominican Kev, and together they drop a collection of ten tracks with 30 minutes of some of the slickest beat-to-rhyme rations you’ve heard in a minute, and that’s on god! Let’s start with the production on this one. Across these ten tracks, we are greeted with some of the most soulful and atmospheric instrumentals you could ask for! All blending together to create a lush experience that has an 80’s feel to it mixed with modern-day hip hop. From the methodically paced vocal harmonies to the plucked strings and jazz-like drums that are scattered across the various beats to create this soundscape that can’t help but make you feel a certain way! We get that wrestling-inspired intro that kicks off the mood of the album, and each track just further amplifies the established aesthetic of the entire record. There’s something powerful about a man who utilises such soothing and damn near ambient energy and at the same time makes it so powerful; as you listen, you can’t help but let it absorb all your stress and make you pay full attention to the album! I’ve only had the briefest history with this producer, but he has shown the utmost respect, technique, and professionalism, and this (as far as I’ve seen so far) is definitely his magnum opus work! This whole album runs like a masterpiece! As far as the MC work on this goes, who else to better complement his production than the one and only Heartbreak Julio! This man has been on my radar since last year, and he has yet to disappoint! Whether it be in his own solo stuff or guest features, he’s always outshining the pack, and on this one? He definitely gives his best work to date! What makes him so unique from the rest is his versatility and rich personality and charisma! He’s like a one-man film cast. He’s the one who plays all the characters! He’s the drama, the intensity, the humour, the genius, and the hustler. He can play all the parts and be descriptive as hell while doing it! From his clever puns to his vivid stories, his smart one-liners, his street poetry, it all comes together in a performance unlike any other! I discovered Heartbreak alongside cats like -Wulverine -Action Figure 973 cats who have imagination and creativity in SPADES! And so it’s only natural (as someone cut from the same cloth) that he would be the one to ignite the verses with his own brand of high-spirited, sharp lyricism with enough passion to shame the culture as a whole! Every time I hear this man rap, I feel like he deserves an Oscar because of his lively and damn near animated verses and bars! Always one of my favourites to hear on the beat! Trust me, this album is going to BLOW UP! It’s got everything from the perfect production to the illest and slickest performances! A duo made in hip-hop heaven.
