Soul Food For Thought Pt. 2

Hey, I’m two for two on listening to records with no features! That’s solid in my book. I only discovered this MC recently but since I have he’s definitely exceeded any expectations I thought I had for him! Someone with a large personality that takes over any area of the underground he takes part in and now returning with this sequel he might of outdone himself again! Let’s go! This is the brand new album by MC -Spoda and Producer -Free Mind and together they drop this 11 track, 26 minute experience that is the very definition of SOULFUL and I loved every second of it. The production aspect is unlike anything else I’ve heard this year. I can’t lie and say I heard the first part before this one but based on the merits of this one alone I was blown way by the smooth, soulful, funky atmosphere that this record creates. This whole album feels larger than life! The vibrant instrumentations, the lush samples, the colorful textures it’s all done in the most crisp and beautiful way possible to create a score that transports me back to the 1980’s Soul/Rnb/New Jack Swing inspiration and I was HOOKED! I can’t even break down track to track on this one because each track feels like a continuous progression of the one that came before and after. As if this was one long track that was cut into 11 different sides! Similar to how Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’ was on! Or Sades ‘Love Deluxe’ did! A record that brings to the table similar aspects song to song but serves a grander person once listened to as a whole and this is exactly the same feeling I’m getting off this one! I just gotta give a final shoutout to Free Mind! A man I don’t think I’ve had any experience prior to think but he has inspired me to pay attention! This is some next level, AOTY worthy production and it helped create a magnificent just shy of half an hour of truly incredible music! When we discuss the lyrical aspect of things we get to talk about Spoda and his one man vision to create performances worthy enough of blending with that ridiculous production we got from Free mind and I’m surprised to say that he does it and makes it look easy! Across these 11 tracks he sounds smoother then he’s ever been, more flexible, versatile, soothing and straight up sharp! He knows he’s a boss on the mic and he’s dedicated a more relaxed and confident cadence to breaker in that harmonious production! He’s always been the type to have that ‘main character’ aura but on this one paired with that soundtrack he’s definitely put alot of emphasis and elevation on his already great qualities as an MC and it shows! Again I’m glad he rocked the no feature approach for this one, it’s perfect with just the two of them present no distractions or disruption to the aura of the record just pure, unadulterated atmosphere that only the two of them could create! I NEED all of you to peep this new record, as I said it has the capacity to be AOTY and it’s a chemistry I hope we hear more of in the future!
