This is quite the bombshell album to drop right in the middle of August! This man Sayzee has been dropping some of the most versatile shit we’ve heard in the last few years, combine that with the efforts of Tona and the various producers and you’ve got yourself a recipe that can’t fail! Let’s talk about it! This is the brand new record by MC’s Sayzee & Tona with Producers such as -Slot-A -Cuzzin Vinny -Tone Mason -Pangea -Eric G -The Kount this one has a heavy hitting charge that can only be described as ‘BANGIN’ with a capital B. When we discuss the actual tone of the album this actually has a nice smooth, distinctive and subtle sound to it that’s mixed with boom Bap elements! It’s not too heavy or too gritty but just the right balance of soothing and satisfying instrumentation that makes this a glide to sit through (with the exception of a few key tracks) Such as -Harpo Nights this is one of the few times when they go fully deep, cold blooded drug wave vibe! From those distorted synth keys, merciless drum work, thick bass and an aggressive atmosphere that wraps around the entire track that’s truly eerie in execution! But to further illustrate what I was saying above we have tracks such as -For The Weather which has this dreamy aspect to it. This one has a combination of naturally delicate piano keys that have this shimmering aspect to them that’s mixed with some groovy bass strings and some lively drums! This one feels like the organic side of the same coin of the previously described song! This one suits stadiums and number one charts! There’s even the track -Yolanda which instinctively reminds me of the Philmore Greene track ‘Nice To Meet You’ as I’m 99% sure they use the same sample! But regardless it’s a beautiful sample of violin or cello whatever that instrument is it’s fucking angelic and this one is a lot more in the forefront than the other one! This one has a more subtle and minimal drum pattern with a light chord progression rumbling in the background for some added texture! As far as the MC work goes. These two have a deadly onset chemistry that is both fun to listen to and a cautionary tale for the culture. It seems (despite the lavish production) that these two bring the most animalistic sides of each other out! One will up the ante, the other will increase it even further until you’re listening to a studio competition taking place across each track! It’s like a constant game of ‘I can do anything better than you’ but in brotherly form. They are taking each of the 10 tracks to sharpen their wordplay, lyricism, cadence, flow, enunciations, rhythm literally everything between each other and it sounds thrilling to be able to catch it in real time. Also loved the fact there were 0 features. No other distractions or names to be placed just these two going toe to toe to bring the competitiveness back into the underground! Definitely an album you shouldn’t sleep on! It’s powerful, smooth and mesmerising all in one!
