It’s kind of crazy actually to realise that this man a rapper I’ve known almost as long as I’ve had my website running for is doing a basketball themed album while rapping on topics such as extreme politics and violent rap lyrics. To understand how truly insane that is you really have to know the man’s discography from then to now for this concept to blow you away! Obviously I do and so consider me blown. Combine that with a producer who pays homage to godfather enforced and real life mafia affiliations figure and you have a record that is sure to turn heads until your purple in the face! Let’s talk about it! This is the brand new album between MC -Here$ Johnny and Producer -Luca Brasi 753 and together they drop this 10 track album with no features but the equivalent of 7x glocks worth of heat! I suppose we can start with the rapping side of things. Because man once again to hear the rapping style of Johnny never ceases to amaze he! The fact that he’s always at such high intensity regardless of the situation or concept he brings the same 0-100 on each word, sentence and verse and we get to hear that here as well! A man who is as open and vocal about his opinions and views as he is off the records always has something he has to say and he stands on his business no matter what! Across these 10 tracks we hear him rapping on shit like -Donald Trumpf which of course starts off with a basketball snippet which transforms into lyricism about his distain for the president and everyone and everything around him and his actions. Of course you’ll catch the wordplay Easter egg on how the word ‘trumpf’ was done referencing Hitler’s controversial book! On the track -A True Shooters True Story we get to hear a vivid and compelling story told by Johnny himself. A story I wouldn’t want to spoil but to hear him rap in a author fashion was quite interesting I don’t hear many of those across his tracks and this one felt like a itch that needed to be scratched! On this album he’s not only bringing a mix of both his trademark content and something new BUT he’s doing it all completely featureless! Standing on his own two and doing the most with it as he always has! Now let’s begin with the production side of things. This man Luca Brasi 753 is someone I hadn’t heard until this project but after his performances on here it definitely won’t be my last! Firstly, I do appreciate how he’s able to constantly blend basketball elements throughout the album with various snippets and game footage to keep the theme alive and in your head at all times, that was good! As far as the instrumentals go we have a few highlights (in my opinion) that stood out for all the right reasons! One of them is -My Heat’ll Erease You I love the big film score feel on this one! From those massive distorted chords that takeover the track as if Godzilla is coming! That loop is combined with some rhythmic/minimal drums with some ridiculously thick bass strings that made this one a gritty banger! Towards the 1 minute 12 second mark there is a slight beat switch up that I also appreciated! There’s the track -Donald Trumpf which has this surreal boom Bap inspired feel with those haunting piano keys mixed with those thick bass strings and mesmerising drum work! This one has alot more of an eerie factor to it with even the occasional scream adlib thrown in for the further enhanced effect! There’s even the song -Combusted Liver which has this real ominous introduction of this woman talking about her experiences trying to sleep and herself dreaming which leads into this track which is this super trippy, methodically charged instrumental that has everything from those atmospheric string progressions, this sharp chord that continues throughout the entire track as well as those rhythmic drugs act as like a punch in the stomach across the entire track! A truly spacey yet must listen feel! Long story short, this is another terrific effort by Here$ Johnny and a solid piece of art by Luca! Both men provide outstanding chemistry and performances alike!
