The Procession

This man has come out the gates swinging! He says ‘one drop? Nah, two drops? Nope let’s go for 3!’ he’s out to make a statement and I can guarantee this three peat will make heads turn! As far as this review goes, I’m gonna start with the middle drop to see what he’s bringing this time around! Let’s go! This is the brand new EP by MC -Memphis Reigns and Producer -Gennessee and together they drop this 5 track project with -Azuma as the sole feature! Now. I probably say this every new Memphis project I cover but I can’t help it. This man sounds likes he’s evolving at a rapid rate that I find aspiring! Everything from his charisma to his flows to his cadences, enunciations it’s just all improved since the last time I heard him and it’s beautiful to witness! He doesn’t waste any time of this 15 going straight to the heavy hitting verses, the clever bar work, interesting wordplay, his usual brand of vivid vocabulary and a charm In his performances to bring it all home. He’s bringing that prime 90’s era energy on the tracks! Bringing back the ‘Bars first’ mentality. No dumb, experiential shit just straight raw penmanship that can go toe to toe with anyone else in the game. I love the confidence he shows across these 5! This is the most ill, sharp and gargantuan he’s sounded since I discovered him. My favourite track of his work is -Double Dutch! This track reminds me of a 2000’s banger that you’d expect to be number one on the charts, across all the clubs and radios! His verse on this one was incredible! You could hear that brash tone to his voice combined with his smooth flow. It sounds like he wants all the smoke on this record and if this is an example of what to expect from him going forward then consider me beyond impressed! Now, to discuss the production side of this and more specifically my favourite three tracks as is trademark. This is the first time I’ve heard this man’s production and let me say he definitely deserves his flowers because for a 15 minute project he brings the HEAT! So for my absolute favourite beat we gotta start with -Booklets. I can’t praise this one enough! It’s got this soulful/jazz/boom Bap fusion to it that I feel I could listen to forever! From those beautiful piano keys that have a slight echo effect, those hypnotic drum patterns and that occasional high strung horn sample in the background fuck! Everything about this is simply phenomenal! My second favourite track is -Double Dutch! This has that 2000’s Dr Dre feel to it. You’ve got that slightly haunted vibe with those groovy and heavy keys in that haunting pattern! Those lively chords in the background that has a theatrical edge to them and of course that gorgeous vocal harmony that opens the track up which sets up the tone of the instrumental! There’s also some mesmerising drum work that acts as the skeleton of the whole track! My third favourite is -Jakarta (the finale track) they decided to close the EP off in an absolute BANGER! You’ve got that return of the soulful vibe with that angelic flute sample with those subtle Jazz style keys that’s accompanied by another showcase female vocal harmony with more thudding drum and bass working together to maintain that atmosphere energy! Man, this thing goes HARD! They say death comes three. So I guess he’s here to murder the game 3x over! DON’T SLEEP! And shoutout to Azuma on the EP!
