Well, this is an appropriate track to cover! I’m in the middle of G1 season and so a wrestling track featuring a wrestler on the verse? Nah this is some destiny shit. A man who has always interested me in his wrestling themed discography and a producer who has made music for some of my favourite artists in the culture coming together for one dope single! Let’s talk about it! This is the brand new track by MC -Teek Hall and Producer -CeeGee with a guest verse from for AEW’s own -Max Caster and this trio of men help create a rather fun and exciting single that I feel hits the spot not only as a wrestling fan but as a hip hop fan as well. Firstly, I want to discuss that fire X-Men intro that kicks the whole song off! As this song is called ‘Bobby Drake’ in reference to Iceman it does make sense. Or maybe this is a clever pun towards Drake and his Iceman album? No idea but it’s definitely a dope way to start the track off! As we get into the track itself we start off with Teek who comes in heavy with his smooth, passionate and energetic voice on the verse! I love how he always mixed between confidence and geeking out over pop culture topics! He’s like the friend we all wish we had growing up. Someone who is both a dope rapper and a legit wrestling/comic kid! The way he’s able to blend both worlds together is second to none. With fun puns, references and slick bar work he helps push the narrative and atmosphere of the track getting it ready for the guest in Max Caster! Max comes in as strong as I expected. Considering he use to come out to a brand new freestyle weekly on AEW shows it should come as no surprise that his verse is raw, action packed and clean! I loved his savage bar ‘I’m like a girl who just turned 18, the dirty little secret on your laptop screen’ insane bar! As someone who’s known to push buttons on his freestyles against wrestlers it’s no secret his ability to push the bar when needed! (Pun intended) A legitimate performance that felt equal parts gritty and pure! When we come to the production aspect of this track we talk about -CeeGee. A man who has created a lot of my favourite artists music and he’s back to do it again here! On this song we have this striped back, skeletal boom Bap experience that will force you to mean mug the world around you for exactly 3 minutes and 17 seconds. We’ve got these distorted chords that progress in this relentless loop throughout the track! That’s accompanied by some luscious bass strings, light keys in the background and some malice drum patterns that have this heavyweight feel to them that bring a level of texture to the whole track! This is one of the coolest singles I’ve heard all year. It’s got the powerhouse producer for the beat, a surprise feature by a wrestler himself and Teek to bring it all together! What else could you want? A mic drop?
