It’s crazy the run this man has been on so far this year! Not many had the breakout drop he did in January and that has only helped him progress to new heights with working alongside certified underground titans and producers alike. A storied year for him so far and it’s only gotten stronger as we discuss his brand new record that will once again have the culture talking! Bringing in the variety of producers on every project! Normally I’m not a fan of this style but the fact 067 is trying to give exposure to all different types of beat makers is something special! In saying that, there’s something so unique about 067’s rapping style. It’s not exactly traditional but it’s not ‘splash’ either. It’s somewhere in the middle! He maintains the rhythm of the beat but he can spit anywhere from 1 to 100 words per minute depending on how he feels! Similar in lyrical execution as Action his bars have this fun, unpredictable nature to them! One second he could be talking street poetry, others wrestling or pop culture. He doesn’t take his pen game to seriously which is good because it means he can say whatever he wants and make it work! One song I loved to hear was track 4: WE SAW YOUR ALBUM FLOP AT SUNDANCE because this is the first time (to me anyway) that I heard 067 rap alongside STARKER! They had such incredible chemistry and matched each others tone! It was truly magnificent! With Starker opening the track and 067 ending it with his trademark charismatic infusion of bars! Of course that opening track with ??? And Action Figure is always ridiculously tough. They proved that with their collective album and alongside the notorious -Nicholas Craven they hit a home run once more! The song: EVERY RED CENT was a pretty solid track as well when we hear -TwoGeebs open the track off with that phenomenal opening verse! One of the dopest I’ve heard from him yet! He had such a smooth flow and delivery! This year he’s been killing it across all his projects! I probably say this every time but 067 sounds the most consistent and fresh on this one yet! Building his lore that much stronger! On the production side of things (as stated by the intro) we have a variety of names. Some familiar others not so much! All of them help create this sonic hot pot for everyone to enjoy! We can talk about Nicholas Craven on the intro track: FANTASY ISLAND with that consist old school vocal sample in that melodic loop that’s combined with that subtle use of bass strings, tweaked chords in the background and some shimmering piano keys that’s all combined with that stripped back drum work that acts as sort of a skeleton to the whole track! A song and beat that took me by surprise was on track 6: FOXES MAKE GREAT PETS by -Tetsuo! I was expecting this out there, over the top experimental joint but instead we are greeted with this lavish and Jazz inspired rendition! It starts with this quick spoken word that quickly evolves into this beautiful harmony of piano keys in two different layers as well as this subtle vocal snippet that re appears every few seconds! A very minimal instrumental that provides all the atmosphere in the world! Track 5: THE ORDER NAME IS RED gave this heavy Lo Fi vibe to it. From those methodically charged piano keys that has such weight to it that’s paired with that strong ambient atmosphere and incredibly subtle drum hi hat taps! This is what being high feels like! The representation of a relaxing body high! Actually track 9: SHRAPNEL IN MY JACKET POCKET I loved as well! I loved the subtly of it all. The main bulk of this track is that slightly muffled deep vocal loop that is accompanied by some thick bass strings and slight glistening keys in the background! Against extremely stripped back but it was a lovely vibe! Another solid performance by 067 and the company he brought! I still remember him being an under the radar feature verse on someone else’s single to now being the main event! His rise has been phenomenal and I’m sure there’s plenty more to come!
