YOU CAN’T JUST TRUST ME

This could very well be the surprise drop of the year! After already dropping two breakout albums of the year he’s decided to grace us with a third Bandcamp exclusive! So with that in mind let’s talk about it! This is the brand new out of nowhere drop by MC 067 RED and he brings with him production from the likes of -REDHANDS -PLAYA HAZE -BLACKBRAINZ -3TWO -SCUD -WALZ -TETSUO And when it comes to the production side of things, as is custom with a 067 project it leaves a wide array of sounds, influences and samples that leave a sweet sonic taste with listener making them want to come back for more! Across this one we have tracks like the opening one -SO YOUR NAME IS JAMAICA LIKE THE COUNTRY which has a more ambient feel to it with those atmospheric keys combined with those angelic chord progressions and thick bass to bring the whole song together! I always find it intriguing the way he can turn instrumentals by a massive collection of names come together in a fluent way! It never feels awkward or messy or all over the place. That’s I feel the main magic behind working alongside 067! The tidy structure of all There’s tracks such as -PRT which has an old school soulful vibe that feels a tad bit distorted! From that tweaked vocal harmony at the start that advances to his experimental style gritty beat with distorted strings that feel heavy and eerie! That’s combined with what sounds like sharp synth and sickening bass that makes this feel like an 80’s montage moment on the worst acid you’ve ever tried! I also love how it ends on a completely different vocal harmony that it started with! For me the biggest surprise on the feature list was my main man -Tetsuo! A man I’ve had plenty of history with and someone who I know can rock any song or album he’s on! This track is proof of that! On this one we hear some fast paced instrumentation which I expected from him. Plucked strings, shimmering piano keys, thick bass and an overall pattern of rhythmic chaos that only Tetsuo can bring! I’d say if any track THIS is the one that stands out the most for it’s unique and one of a kind feel to it! If a whirlwind has a sound signature this is what it would sound like! The beauty of a 067 Red performance (pause) is the fact that even though he sounds similar in each album (as you’d expect from any artist you regularly listen to) but somehow each record sounds unique to it’s own! For example his -California album sounds more methodical and cerebral then his -SUGE KNIGHT one which sounds more fluent and vibrant then -California and still different then this one! Which in my opinion sounds more raw, aesthetically rough around the edges and gives off a hint of test press vibes! As if this is 067 red going ‘Even on my rawest shit I’m still better then all you cats in the culture) and he means it and it does still sound phenomenal! Remember when Kendrick dropped -Untitled/Unmastered and it still was one of the most banging projects of the year? That’s the same as we have here! An album that (in my opinion) sounds more raw compared to California and Suge still out does what I hear by most others! Which is a statement in and of itself! He still showcases his original flow, his free/splash style timing in his bar execution. His brash charisma and personality that’s tied in with his verses and puns! How he always starts his verses off with his iconic ‘Ah, Ah! Only to drop a spectacle of wordplay on the sharpest beat you’ve heard! The thing is, he never sounds tamed or conformed! Always the one to shine the brightest, shout the loudest and make his presence known the quickest! And this time he’s doing it with no features! You’d have to be living under a rock not to be aware of his powerhouse effort with ??? And Action Figure! He can stand toe to toe with the best of them and even across his other solo shit he likes to incorporate some of the best spitters in the industry but for now he’s proving why even on his own he can KILL any beat and album!
