There are many amazing things you can do in Switzerland -to die for sight seeing -immerse yourself in a one of a kind culture experience -take an adventure on their rustic trains, boats and buses! And if you can’t be fucked to do any of that you can always tune into this 3 track EP by two of the hottest artists in the game right now? Bring the Switzerland experience to your living room! So on this new sonic venture we have this new EP by MC -Action Figure 973 and Producer -Kronos and together they work with a solid 8 minutes of pure unhinged fire that only these two could come up with! Let’s start with the production side of things. We have that intro track -Jelly Fish Sting that has this interesting distorted Jazz feel with that horn loop that sound just a bit off but in a more experimental sense! That’s combined with some thick bass and some clap sounds that makes this both a minimal track and yet powerful at the same time! Also love the end of it where Action describes his meeting Kronos! On the second track -Scary Love we go back into more ‘traditional’ territory with that soulful intro that evolves into this ambient inspired instrumental with those muffled chords that sound like they are played underwater! That’s also associated with some tweaking horns, more bass and that vocal snippet that scatters itself throughout the track! There’s also some occasional keys that appear in and out in a glistening fashion! Definitely my favourite beat on the EP! Reminds me of the 80’s! On the final -Mad At God we get more mystical atmosphere gritty boom Bap influence with those hypnotic piano/shining keys with that sickening bass thudding throughout the whole track as well as some heavy drum patterns! There’s also this haunting vocal loop that rips through the song in a truly eerie way! I feel this is the best way you can end the EP as it leaves a darker and harder lasting impression with the audience! Now onto the MC aspect. It’s always a treat to hear Action because for me personally he’s the kind of rapper I imagine I’d be if I ever became one. I love his content from the wrestling bars, pop culture, brash talk all in one. He enables all my personalities into one rapper and that’s why it will always be an enjoyable listen to me whatever he happens to be on and the same can be said for this one! Across these 8 minutes we hear top form Action! Because he’s utilising three different styles of beat and making the best out of them. Formulating a more creative flow to match the experiential nature of the opener, showcasing his rare sentimental and emotional side on that love song for the second and giving us his trademark in your face performance to match the boom Bap of the finale! Just like Jericho, he’s the master of re invention. He could make a 20 track album and show you 19 new sides of him you’ve never seen before! In an area of short projects and snippet length tracks it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle. Just because everyone uses this method doesn’t mean you’re captivating people with it but that’s not the worry here. He’s as compelling as any rapper you’ll find these days with a combination of both chill and sharp performances mixed with his fun and witty pen game he’s always one to look out for! 24 hours in Switzerland. The real thing undoubtedly would be nice but would it beat a new Action EP? You be the judge.
