Now here we have a very interesting situation for me. Not only am I covering a prequel but also an album under a different alias by the MC I’m familiar with! So many new things for me and I’m down for all of it! Based on the project cover alone I was intrigued and once I got into the music itself that intrigue was further advanced! Let’s talk about it! This is the 2023 EP by MC -Solomon Goodeson and Producer -Osland Blanc and together they drop this 6 track 16 minute experience that is a lot more stripped back and vivid then a lot of the stuff out there! Let’s explain why First of all, I want to discuss the production. This isn’t merely a collection of rap instrumentals but in fact a score consisting of minimalistic grandeur and cinematic conversions that makes this soundtrack one of the more compelling in the past few years! From tracks like -Jamon Iberico which has this beautiful Jazz heavy beat with those glorious horns in that lush loop that’s combined with those high pitched drums and those light yet delicate strings! Not to mention that smooth spoken word intro who I assume is -Solomon as he offically introduced the EP! But yeah man this beat is gorgeous! Actually speaking of we have that intro track which has that what I assume is Spanish intro? That later blooms into this beautifully woven stripped back instrumental featuring acoustic strings & a woeful vocal harmony runs through the whole track! I love his acoustic raw vibe of this intro it sets up the project phenomenally! And can we discuss the track -Gambas al Ajillo that has to be one of the most atmospheric experiences I’ve heard recently. This sounds like sleeping on a cloud of ambiance. That rhythmic Jazz horns? God damn! You combine that with that minimal drums and those sharp chords? And it’s a wrap. Definitely my favourite beat on the whole project! As we discuss Solomon he’s just as confident and impressive as this as he is as Bar! It seems regardless of the alias he kills the performances! Across this 16 minute EP he shows his more distinctive, smooth and thought provoking side in the way he performs, formulates his words, presents himself and more. He gave me strong -Milo vibes on this EP that I absolutely loved. The same strong and complex lyrical patterns. The same nonchalant yet simultaneously captivating tone and voice that leaves you on the edge of your seat and the same dynamic penmanship that makes you feel like your listening to a 1800’s poet come to life and write these verses. I love how in control and free he sound here, like a true author he’s in his element and his flow, pen and voice benefits from this. He doesn’t waste a single second of the booth time and he doesn’t rush! Regardless of if he has 5 or 50 minutes he’s a man who appreciates patience. Understands the pros of taking your time in your delivery, letting the words breathe and letting the audience have time to absorb the messages and thoughts he’s conveying through the songs! Honestly this was a very impressive showing by both men! I didn’t know what I was going to get before I clicked but now that I have I want more. Trust me you’ll want to hear this one!
