If these one thing I can credit this artist with it’s ’flare’ regardless of the album, project or who he works with it’s always a different experience with a new charisma I’ve never seen from him! That comment means more on this project then ever as I see a side of him that quite frankly shocked me! Why? Let’s talk about it! This is the 2021 album by MC Maine The Medicine and Producer Duds as it features the likes of -Jay Preston -Lucas Hex -Lambo Lo (as well one track produced by -ThisIsHipHop) Now the reason for my shock? Is the choice of production! At this point I thought there was nothing I could hear from the man that would surprise me but I was wrong because this is the most experimental and boundary pushing beats I’ve heard yet from Maine due to Duds! In fact the track -Blood On My Hands (specifically the chorus) reminds me of that tune of the first ever song created by a PC -Daisey Bell which was done in the like the 80’s or something! I get that same creepy vibe off the chorus while the rest of the song features those synth chords in that methodical pace, even slower drums and light yet haunting keys that go off in that looping motion! A truly disturbing track Wanna talk a crazy track, how about that second track in? -Strip Clubs With Duds this one reminds me of 2010’s era Aussie rap (Kerser to be exact) and particularly 360 as well. Very club oriented with that thick bass, colorful synth keys and rhythmic drums that is lightly sprinkled with those atmospheric keys in the background! The type of track you’d hear at the high end club where if you don’t have that pure white on your nose you ain’t trusted to get in! There’s even tracks like -Dream Walker which honestly sounds like a Hip Hop mix of Horrocore, HorrorPunk and Nu Metal! Imagine Korn mixed with Limp Bizkit! You’ve got those classics horror elements with those Dracula (esk) organ keys combined with those savage drums and thick bass/synth! This is the kind of song you’d expect Rob Zombie to make if he went Hip Hop! Or better yet a track by -Body Count! Running parallel to the production we have something of the most expressive, dark, dramatic and explosive performances by Maine himself! He was showcasing to the world the boundaries he’s willing to push for the sake of creativity and originality and I love it! This is a side of him I could get use to! Hearing him test himself and see just how far he can run this sonic gauntlet and I’d say each of the 10 tracks hits like a steam engine! He doesn’t waste a single second on this one and alternately there’s no boring moment! It’s all filled with intense conceptual tracks, murderous scenarios and thrilling bars and puns to remind you that the beat is sick and HE is the medicine! It’s interesting because he’s one of the few artists I’ve seen who is consistently going through the motions of ‘solo album to duo to solo) and never losing any ground or momentum as he does this! He’s one who excels in both areas and I can’t say that about anyone! Across this tape he has fewer features then he’s had in the past which I feel suits him best as he gets to use more time to utilise his own skills and build that core relationship audience to get us invested in his concepts, themes and verses and that’s how I felt listening to this record! I was captivated from start to finish! So, have you had a chance to hear this one yet? If so what did you think of it! And if not, go check it out now!
