You know a record is about to be good when the album starts off with a looney tunes style intro sequence! That’s that real fire right there, what proceeds next is something we all gonna sit and discuss together! Let’s talk about it! This is the brand new album by MC -Gustavo Louis and Producer -Cusho and together they drop this 10 track, 23 minutes with the likes of -Bug Nelson to support the feature role! And can’t lie this is a side of Gustavo I felt was refreshing in terms of the atmosphere and instrumentals he decides to rock with! I want to start with the track -Green Jacket because this might have one of the darkest beats I’ve heard him on yet! From those sinister distorted chords that have some glistening keys in the background backing it up! There’s these chilling long winded what sounds like violin strings and some heavy thudding drum beats! There’s even these raw, acoustic guitar strings that strum down to create this intense feel! My favourite part of this album was that small Ozzy Osbourne ‘Crazy Train’ sample where we hear the opening of the song before it’s cut! Definitely suits the vibe of the track! There’s the track -four iron/Gangkhis Khan I loved this song for both its lyrical topic (Khan) and the weird/quirky nature of the beat that perked my interest immediately! This song has what’s best described as these sci fi synth keys that loops around the entire track alongside some lavish violin strings and thick bass with some minimal drum work to add some solid texture and depth to the track! This makes me feel like I just took an edible and I’m spacing out! Truly one of a kind! What about the track -Arnold Palmer? This one is more of a smooth and soulful vibe with a hint of stoner aura to it. Firstly those amazing electric guitar strings in the forefront of the track that’s collaborating with those sharp G Funk style synth strings is a pairing made in heaven. Those things are combined with some lush keys and subtle bass and methodical drums that make this feel like some Pink Floyd 80’s shit morphed into hip hop form! Nothing quite like it! Firstly, I love how Gustavo can talk his street/drug shit even when he’s making an album Golf inspired! If that ain’t versatile then I don’t know what is. Throughout the album we hear a variety of snippets of Golf references and then turns around and uses aspects like ‘Ganghis Khan’ as puns for dominance of the culture! I mean on track 8 he literally says ‘Caddyshack, cooking crack’ as the way to open the song! Who do you know that does that! Absolutely insane He’s a man who (especially the last few years that I discovered him from) has been blending the worlds of remixes, pop culture album blends and street talk to create a lane that he’s solely alone and responsible for and this is one of those prime examples! I don’t know shit about Golf but somehow this works! From that insane intro skit to the album covers and track names, he’s really able to blend both worlds together and make it sound vibrant! On this album he brings his trademark charismatic personality and fluent approach to the instrumentals with his clever puns, unpredictable voice Modular’s and enough creativity to coat the rap game in! Of course he does have that one feature of -Bug who helps create some extra depth and emphasis to the album! They make a good duo and I love how it’s only one feature because it lets Gustavo shine that much brighter! So, you love golf? You love street/drug talk? You love hip hop? You fuck with Khan? Then this album is for you! One of my favourite albums of his this year! Give it a shot!
