It’s been a minute since I last covered either of these men! Nonetheless in a duo setting? That’s the definition of overkill. Pair that with a list of dope MC’s and you have a special project in the works. Let’s talk about it! This is the brand new album produced by the one and only Jazzy Lio Man with Lo Katana on the rhymes. Far from alone though he brought with him the likes of -FlyG -Charley Roy -Booshido -Zeu$ the Marijuana McFly -Tajh Malik -Nova The Vagabond -Ducklin Curls -Ant Kelly -GOMMi J And let’s start with the production side of things! It’s always a treat to hear that production tag ‘Lioooon’ because you know you’re in for one yourself. On this one we see him go into his mixed bag of influences to pull of a range of styles to help keep the album interesting and sonically mesmerising! Such as -Altered Scales with that unique combination of wavering plucked strings in two different layers one more abrasive and the other a smoother more acoustic version! Those are combined with some delicate keys and what sounds like some tapping notes in the background! A very creative beat from Jazzy! Very different from the track next on -Heavy Hands as we hear a more classical sonic interpretation with those beautiful what sounds like violin strings combined with some more plucked guitar strings with that tweaking twang to it that’s meet with some groovy bass and subtle drums! This one feels like 1940’s in a nutshell it’s such a relaxing instrumental and the MC’s featured on the song help keep the track fresh! There’s this track -Django/Neon Sabbath which has this gorgeous play on Soul/Jazz that makes you feel like you’re listening to a soundtrack to an immersive indie game! It’s delicate yet angelic. You’ve got those pivoting sharp chords that appear every 5-6 seconds that’s accompanied by some breezy strings that pluck every few seconds as hypnotic as the ocean breeze! With the drums acting like the Skelton to the whole track! As far as the MC work goes, we see one of the small handful of cases where a man who is predominantly known as a producer showcasing his rapping styles and he does well! I swear with each new project I cover of his I gotta double confirm with Lo to see if he’s also got a hand in the production or not! (Can never be sure) Regardless on this one he brings his strong presence to the table. To me he raps a half UK drill half poetic style that fuses into this original take that is unlike anyone else. It provides him the opportunity to create verses that feel strong and refreshing, a swift flow with a hint of introspection in his penmanship. One moment he can be dropping brash bragging bars to fit the stereotypical hip hop narrative and others he’ll be dropping thought provoking pieces of bars that make you think! He doesn’t fit into any specific category with his lyricism which I finds makes him that much more of a compelling character in the rap scene Of course, you can’t talk about this album without mention the features. Most I’m familiar with some I’m not but all put their grind in to create a solid chemistry all around! From FLYG’s trademark one liners to Ant’s high energy verbal notions and everything in between. The atmosphere stays hungry and high quality and combine that with Jazzy’s production and you have the defining moment for a banger! Have you heard this yet? What did you think? Let me know!
