Me covering two projects in the same day by my main man Dev? Has Christmas come early? I guarantee you he’s one of those beat makers that could drop 365 days a year and never miss! This is one of those examples. This time with an MC that seems to have one of those riveting type personalities that seem to rock the production flawlessly! Let’s talk about it! This is the brand new EP by MC -Bar Samyaza and Producer -Dev Rogers with five tracks and probably the strongest eight minutes you’ll hear in your life. Let’s talk about it! First of all, if we start with the production side of things, Dev is back on his hardcore, heavy, raw, in-your-face type shit! The type of shit that makes your grandma cry and your street brothers testify! It’s got everything you could want! For example, tracks like -Fury, which is appropriately named because this one is absolutely SAVAGE! Reminds me of an old-school Griselda type beat with those heavy bass drum sounds on that relentless loop that’s combined with those shrieking chord progression in the background and what sounds like distorted juggling of rocks? Can’t really identify what that messy sound layer is, but it adds a haunting level of mystery and depth to the track! But on the track right after, we have something more smooth and mellow. From those light jazz horn layers combined with those subtle drum beats, strong and steady synth keys wavering throughout the song, and I’m pretty sure some delicate keys in the background that are just occasionally flying around the song! -Agony sounds exactly like the title track name. It’s an aggressive instrumental with those eerie vocals chords, disturbing keys that feel personally plucked by Dracula himself! There are more fast-paced shrieking chords that sound like a madman’s orchestra and this skeletal drums that help wrap the song together! There are some sombre jazz horns in between all of this that kind of break the tension but not by much! Definitely not for the faint of heart! When we discuss the lyrical side of things. We talk about a man who surprised me with his performances. He’s a man who has a strong presence, an intricate yet powerful voice, and swift pen work that makes each verse he spits feel like the kind of radioactive material that you know you shouldn’t be looking at but you can’t turn away! He made an 8-minute EP feel like 30. I was having a blast listening to his upfront and brash cadence up close and personal. Hearing his street slang mixed with proper sharp vocabulary and a passion that’s hard to ignore. It’s like listening to someone who is a professional at what they do; maybe it’s just me, but whether you’re a historian or shoemaker or fucking MC, when I hear people who are genuinely PASSIONATE about the shit they do, then it makes all their work feel that much better and memorable, and that’s exactly the case here! Especially since it’s on beats made by a man who I know has a ridiculous passion for his music-making, no matter the ups and downs, he’s always hyper-focused, and that’s the kind of dedication I felt in the bars and verses of Bar! I also love how he didn’t include any features. He let his own work speak for itself, and it came out better than I was expecting! This time, readers, you have no excuse! It’s only 8 minutes! If you can’t listen to someone for 8 minutes, then you need to get your attention span checked ASAP! These guys proved strong chemistry doesn’t have to be a long-term thing, and sometimes you can do it in under 10! Listen now!
