Diving deeper into the underground with this one. Covering a set of artists that are new to be but have a buzz in the culture that can’t be ignored! So with that in mind, let’s talk about this new project!
This is the brand-new EP by MC -Alvarez, Masterminded, and Producer -Sinamatik, and together they drop a fresh batch of seven tracks that feature the likes of
-Barbaric and
-Diego Dollaz.
And with these two names to assist, we see Alvarez bring to the forefront his brand of tough, rugged, and tough bar work that makes every verse across this EP feel dangerous!
First of all, I loved how his aggressive approach to the delivery is. It’s intense, and I’m all for it! Reminds me of the 90’s era of rappers, the East Coast hardcore ones who sounded like they weren’t the ones to fuck with, and he’s one of them!
Not only that, but he’s a capable and compelling lyricist! He’s a man who’s able to weave words together in strategic patterns, sharp sentences, witty puns, and phrases with enough one-liners to keep you interested and engaged from the first to the last track!
His chemistry with the two names involved is also terrific. Barbaric for obvious reasons as they have tons of history together, and Diego brings similar energy and heat to the record to capitalise on the momentum that Alvarez set up! Two dope verses that make sure the final song is one of the most memorable!
When we discuss the production side of things, we talk about a man who hears and understands the vibe of the rapper and moves accordingly to create a set of instrumentals that not only complement the MC but do their part in paying homage to the old school! Let me explain.
There’s tracks like -A Dot Phenomenal where we hear a devastating boom-bap excellence that has the combination of those heavy thudding drums combined with thick bass and those plucked chords that have that luscious high vibrant pitch that gives a sense of extra texture to the track! This is one of those trademark sounds that will force you to mean-mug the world!
There’s the track -98 Polo Ish, which has a more surreal atmosphere with that sombre vocal harmony loop or a distorted chord progression. Can’t really distinguish which it is, but it’s tough regardless! That’s combined with rugged bass and thick drum beats. There does seem to be a light use of jazz horns as well, sporadically going through the song, which I found interesting!
Or what about the track -Speeding! Dare I say the more skeletal track on the whole project? You’ve got those delicate piano keys, sharp chord progression, and bare drums. Only a couple of layers in this one, but it hits hard regardless and probably my favourite beat on the whole album! There’s even some sci-fi laser shooter sounds throughout this song, which I found interesting!
Considering I have no experience with either of these artists prior, I must say it exceeded all my expectations. Definitely worth a listen!
