There’s something special about covering an album that just dropped! I don’t normally get to cover something day of but I couldn’t help myself with this one. This is an MC I first discovered on the brand new -Ferris Blusa record with an incredible feature verse and now we hear to see what he’s capable of in his own solo album, so let’s talk about it!
This is the brand new collaborative album by MC -Beedie and Producer Nice Rec and together they dropped a fantastic set of 10 tracks just shy of the 30 minute mark with features from
-Mars Jackson
-Cam Chambers
A pair of MC’s I have yet to hear until now which makes this release even more exciting!
If we begin with the production side of things we hear Nice bring a smooth, clean and sharp set of instrumentals that take me back to the 90’s/2000’s era of Hip Hop when they used those soulful samples of either vocal samples or groovy instrumentation that can please any real rap fan!
The opening track is a perfect example of this, the song -kintsugi which has a combination of those methodical drum patterns, funky chord progressions in that infectious loop, light bass and keys in the background and topped up with that angelic female vocal harmony that wraps this whole track up! Absolutely beautiful
There’s tracks like -weight on you which again has a soulful and smooth blend of instruments that makes me feel like I’m transformed into the 80’s RnB music scene! You’ve got those looped plucked strings that are combined with that sharp synth chords in that lavish execution with those minimal drums that act as a sonic skeleton to the track! Insane combination of influences that give a lush vibe to it!
What about the track -SCARS this one has a more experimental tab to it with that shrieking chord that doesn’t let up throughout the track that’s combined with that free lance drum patterns and thick bass that makes this one of the more deep and distorted instrumentals on the album and probably the most challenging to sit through!
In between the feature transitions there is some choir style vocal samples that breaks the rhythm up to prepare for the feature of -Cam Chambers who absolutely nails it!
As far as the MC aspect goes with Beedie it was pretty much as I expected it to be but elevated tenfold. Because based on his feature I discovered him from I could tell he was a supreme lyricist and now when he has the change to utilise 10 different tracks and showcase just how good he can be it becomes evident that he’s more then just a strong writer but a fantastic performer on the mic!
What I like about Beedie is his versatility on the album. One moment he could be in his lyrical zone, the next a more haunting and brash vibe, the next a more personal and introspective. That goes for his flows as well! It’s not just his themes and bars that switch up it’s also how he talks, the tone of his voice how he actually delivers the different topics that’s key to the versatility!
Also (although not many to talk about) the pair of features on this album definitely go hard! They help bring a bit of extra spark to an already solid album! Just a bit of diverse energy to amplify the record! Both men killed it and had good chemistry with both MC and Producer!
So, have you heard this one yet? Let me know your thoughts!
