First of all, I love that play on words. Taking the infamous term ‘KingPin’ and turning it pro MC? Nah that’s dope. This is a man who from a mere feature grew a friendship that has since flourished into business that’s already shown me just how strong he can be on his own stuff and that’s why this older record has got me so hyped! Let’s talk about it! This is the 2024 album by MC -Beedie and Producer Brainorchastera and together they drop this fire 12 tracks, 36 minutes and the likes of -Planet Asia -Vic Spencer -Ferris Blusa And unlike last time I’m very familiar with the 3 MC’s present for the features! In fact the final one is how i discovered Beedie to begin with! On this album we hear what I would describe as a more ‘traditional boom Bap’ influence across the album as we Brain try and create the most vicious and lethal instrumentals possible! Like on tracks like -30’s With No Credit Score where we hear this truly devastating hip hop beat including those funky piano chords, blitz vocal snippets, thumping drum beats as well as some thick bas that all comes together to create a 90’s style beat that forces you to mean mug! I also love the outro segment of that punk rock to close it off! We have tracks like -Letters which has this incredible sharp violin strings that later evolves into these samurai inspired plucked strings, heavy drums with the return of those sharp violin that also has this mysterious sci fi chords in the background that adds a layer of texture to the track! For only 2 minutes this is one of the HARDEST beats on the whole tape! We even have tracks like -Opportunities which takes a more subtle and mellow take on the track with those glistening keys in that rhythmic pattern that has some light drums and some short sharp chords that appear very 5-7 seconds! One of the more minimal takes on the album but one that’s truly unique and powerful in its own relaxed way! Onto the MC side of things again we have Beedie who sounds as vicious as ever. If I thought he sounded fluent on his other album he sounds like a man possessed on this one! Each track he’s on sounds more synchronised and doper then the last. It’s a bar fest of epic proportions and he makes each of the 36 minutes count! I think the album title speaks for itself in his intentions and what he wants the audience to see him as! ‘The KINGPEN’ the King of the Pen the man who can write the most incredible bars and verses more than the others. A man who can blend his smooth and confident tone with a powerful and rough and rugged delivery with a blend of street poetry and brash lyricism that comes together for this truly gargantuan experience that only HE can deliver! Also, to be able to rap alongside three of arguably the best in the culture right now is tough. He didn’t just hire randoms for this one, he went above and beyond to find true lyrical monsters who can out rap anyone on any given day and to hear Beedie not only keep up but thrive alongside those names was something truly special! So, step away Wilson Fisk. Because there’s a new king in town and he’s called BEEDIE! Alongside the dope BrainOrchestra they come together to take over everything! Listen now!
