Hopeful Studies

You know I come across a lot of music every week naturally doing what I do and some are good some are bad but some just hit you right in the feels and this is exactly what we have here. A tribute track of sorts to one of the greatest rappers to ever do it and produced by a man who has shown us his consistency over the years as he let’s his body of music do the speaking for him and on this occasion he brings with him a rapper who I had yet to hear prior to this but now one I am highly anticipated to dive into! So with that all in mind let’s talk this brand new single! This is the fresh new track by Producer -Superior and MC -Let The Dirt Say Amen (such a dope rap name) and together they drop what I would strongly consider the most compelling 2 minutes and 18 seconds I’ve heard this year period. Why? Because the tribute is on the late genius -Ka who helped pave the way for underground music and became iconic for his legendary lyricism! On this track it starts off with a spoken word snippet by Ka stating how he doesn’t care about being on radio because ‘there’s a kid somewhere, Australia that is bumping my shit talking about Ka is Ill’ and of course that hit me in my soul because not only was I listening to him prior to getting his review request but he is someone who helped pace me teen hip hop years as one of the dopest lyricists in the game so that was the best intro I could of gotten! From there we get into this rapper who channels the same energy, thoughtfulness, direct connection with the audience and skill behind the pen is Ka with that same thought provoking reverence that he had! Definitely a gifted MC Across the span of this track we hear Let utilise his immersive flow and complex wordplay and rhythm that makes each bar he spits feel like an authors tale mixed with street poetry that becomes immediately must listen territory! I love how each sentence is another moral lesson or introspective look at the world. He has a way of blending his real life experience with the various aspects on his mind to create a kind of narrative that feels engaging and verbally satisfying to the ear. Definitely a man who must of studied and grew up with Ka same as me to perform at such a similarly high level and standard of performance! Someone who doesn’t take for granted the opportunity to pay homage AND try walk in one of his influences footsteps and he nails every single word he spits! As far as the production goes, once again Superior hits it out the park. See he’s one of those guys who is never in the public eye for anything unbecoming. Never a bad word spoken about the guy or any controversial behaviour what so ever but one who always reminds us all what sonic perfection sounds and feels like whenever he returns to the forefront and this is again one of those times! From that beautiful vocal harmony at the start of the song that later evolves and switches to a female singer who gives this gospel style singing part that continues to give me goosebumps the more I listen to the track as it later duo’s with the original male vocal loop to create a double threat powerhouse duet singing sample! As well as those we have some methodical drum patterns, glistening and subtle piano keys, light bass that all work in unison around those vocal parts that truly takeover the track! I swear any instrumental or score I hear Superior create makes me feel that’s how he was born ‘Superior’ because it’s always cinematic. Always incredibly rich and stunning in sound and the fact he can turn the most used samples in the game into this innately gorgeous song that gives goosebumps is insane to me. He did the legacy and legend of Ka proud with this one! If you can listen to any single of the year PLEASE let it be this one! It’s one of the most beautiful hip hop songs you’ll hear I promise!
