Now what I’m about to say comes with the utmost love for all he’s contributed so far to the culture in terms of guest features and even an incredible continuous run alongside BlueHill! BUT to hear this man progress his solo career and let the audience be reminded WHY he’s such a sought after piece o the culture and how monstrous he can be on his time? Is something I always love to hear and that’s why when I heard this album was coming out I was excited and especially when you factor in the producer of this caliber? It’s a wrap. Let’s talk! This is the brand new album by MC -Kil The Artist and Producer -Chef Bogey and together they drop this fire 12 tracks with the likes of -BlueHillBill -Dun Dealy Just those two names alone have enough star power to bring a whole house down and they definitely don’t disappoint on this project. Let’s start with the production side of things! Because right out the gate what that instrumental for -You Ready you can already see the dark, atmospheric and thrilling direction he’s going for! With those swaying haunting chords, sharp distorted horns and this consistent sound that engulfs the whole track like a giant cloud of darkness! There’s also this minimal sound of drums that help give this track a bit of texture! Across this whole album we hear Chef understand just how important having Kil on the album is and works accordingly. Creating some of the most insane and interesting beats you’ve heard in your life. From tracks like -Mary J that starts off immediately what gorgeous vocal harmony that continues throughout the track into this soulful fusion of sounds that’s combined with some plucked strings that sound acoustic in it’s execution , skeletal drums and even some layer of electric strings in a more linear fashion! For me it’s the vocal harmony that makes this track stand out! We can even look at tracks like -Kil Or Be Killed which in true Feed The Family style it features this cinematic outcome with those sharp and lavish violin strings that takeover the track! Combined with some absolutely thudding drums and thick bass that makes for the perfect structure for both Kil and Dun to go off on! The moral of the soundboard is. Chef understands all the flavours in his studio and knows exactly where each ingredient and part belongs to create a Michelin star album you’ll be recommending to your family! It’s funny, due to his extensive experience and partnership with BlueHill anytime I hear a Kil verse I always expect to hear Blue following up afterwards but in all seriousness as I explained in the intro I always love the opportunity to highlight his individual skills and rap talents that had led him to be the underground killer that he’s been for years now! Across this album we hear Kil at most probably his most aggressive yet simultaneously smooth and sharp! He’s made the 32 minutes feel like a film score of incredible wordplay, charismatic delivery and well timed bars that compliment Chef’s instrumentals to a tee! That’s the thing about Kil. He’s been building his craft and his exceptional penmanship that can stand with the best of them! Being able to lock in with BlueHill across many projects and other notable MC’s in feature form. He has a distinctive pitch and tone to his voice that gives his words a brash and abrasive ‘twang’ similar to Bluehill that makes every bar feel sharp and killer! Sounding like a hustler standing on a street corner who’s deciding to drop verses on his spare time! That’s the type of wave he’s on and none more so than on this album here! Like the ancient proverb goes ‘Kil The Artist, Kil The Chef’ meaning? Both men absolutely murdered their respective counterparts to provide an album that’s every part as banging, passionate, gritty and memorable as you’d hope this album to be! Don’t sleep on it
