When talking about this album, The Seed himself revealed this might be his favourite album! And upon listening to the record it’s clear why. The direction and a more whimsical tone to his music than we are use to! Which presents use a new side of him and everyone involved! So let’s talk about it!
This is the brand new collaboration between 6th Man’s -The Bad Seed and Producer -Slvrbck Lauren! With features from
-Innocent?
-Mistah Live
-Honey Dinero
I feel like, Seed is at that point in his career where he’s comfortable to just have fun and try new ideas! which isn’t exactly new because if your a supporter of his Bandcamp you’ll find creative gems such as
-The Ronnie Mathers LP
-Kill Switch Series
-Cesar Borgia etc
But on this one I feel a sense of relief from his more traditional shit and taking a break from that serious ‘sounds’ and replacing it with a more free, experimental and unpredictable production where he spits bars that although a bit lighter then previous words still has his trademark loud thoughts expresses over the tracks!
Whether that be a song dedicated to discuss the robbery or streaming royalties! Or his classic complaints about the world around him! But again the ration on this one feels less as we see him explore various ideas such as different voiceover styles on certain lines, a few adlibs and a more dry comedy bars such as
-I’m too old to fight, I’ll just sue that had me in tears! But it’s honest. Something 90% of rappers aren’t!
I love that on this one he’s taking his experienced penmanship and having some fun with it! Letting this album be about stuff he finds enjoyable and interesting and not necessarily about ‘hit’ value but more of a passion project and every verse sounds rejuvenating and fresh! As if he get 12 hours of sleep before each studio session!
I also love how him and Honey end the album off! To anyone paying attention to my work you know how highly I rank Honey and of course her and Seed KILL IT as a duo! Impeccable chemistry!
When discussing the production aspect. We get into the side of Slvrbck Lauren who I feel brought a super animated and equally whimsical approach to the production that kind of reminded me of RZA’s work on the debut ODB album! How the instrumentation felt alive and shit? That’s how it feels here! Colorful, vibrant and monstrous in execution!
I mean look at that track -DID YOU DIE THO where we hear that combo of those lively piano keys in that fresh loop that’s accompanied by that deep toned choir style vocal harmony with some thick bass and groovy drum patterns!
The adlibs are also wild. From sci fi noises to guns going off! A truly what’s what of sounds to accompany the track!
There’s tracks like -I NEVA HAD which sounds like haunted house meets boom Bap! From those screeching keys in that horrifying pitch that’s mixed with those deep bass strings and what sounds like some bass drum patterns and some glass bottles clicking together in the background? Can’t quite pin that but it’s definitely infectious!
The song -PENJI BABY has this surreal, opera feel to it. From that powerful vocal harmony that runs throughout the track and is paired with those subtle bass and high strung violin strings! There’s also some plucked chords that make for a theatrical performance!
The drum work is very trademark hip hop style that I couldn’t help but groove to!
Look, I think I understand why Seed says this is his favourite yet. It’s different! Vibrant with a hint of mindless passion that you don’t hear everyday. This is definitely one not to sleep on!
