Well, now we are moving exactly 11 years post the first one! Instead of being 16 I was 27 years old with alot more review experience under my belt and after having the first one fresh in my mind it’d time to tape on and see what a decade can do to the inspiration of this tape! Let’s talk about it! This is the 2021 beat tape by Producer -E_Buddha with a collection of 10 tracks (doubled since last time) and with what I undoubtedly know will be a fresh perspective I’m excited to see what he brings to the table this around and I gotta say it’s a mixture of something new and something familiar! For example talking tracks like -anglz which starts off with that gospel inspired vocal snippet that evolves throughout the rest of the track that associates itself with those grand organ keys, funky bass, those lush chord progressions in the background and some sick drum beats to wrap it all up! I also think I hear some xylophone in the background? But I couldn’t be wrong! We have tracks like -bonzai which has this beautiful key progressions that I’m almost certain is xylophone cycles in that beautiful loop! That skeletal rhythm is combined with some bare drum patterns to make this one of the more stripped back instrumental but still hits hard as fuck! Things take a similar mellow approach on the track -chess mate as we hear these luscious piano keys in a pattern that feels luxurious in its execution! That’s combined with what sounds like a bell or triangle being rung in the background? And some traditional drum beats! This is the type of beats you’d listen to when you’re trying to expand your mind! The song -cldasice has this beautiful New Jack Swing style rhythm that reminds me of the Ice Cube ‘Today Is A Good Day’ melody you’ve got those same high pitch chord progressions, claps and plucked strings but this time with a more in your face, smooth vocal harmony that runs through the whole track! I loved the song -dntwannalose because it has this fun and funky vocal loop that has this soulful nature to it! Kind of reminds me of a deeper toned bobby brown type! That’s added alongside some piano keys some stripped back piano keys and minimal bass/drum work! A very particular sound this one has that I found interesting! For an album with double the content and over a decade apart we get the opportunity to hear his past and future self collide and how his taste and experience has changed him. What’s funny is this album technically expires in 2022 according to the artwork but I guess this ‘Best Befor Date’ is the exception to the rule because it still sounds fresh as hell!
