‘I might gift your bitch an Orangutang’ when I asked why? The response? :Just an absurd thing to gift to someone. This (among many many other bars) is the reason I fuck with this rapper so much. Dare I say a reflection of me lyrically had I attempted to be a rapper. Someone who has fun with their writing without taking themselves too seriously while at the same dropping some of dopest records you’ve heard in the game! Pair that with a producer who has already worked with some of the best names in it and you’ve got a recipe that is sure to win! So let’s talk about it! This is the latest album by MC and at this point fucking cultural icon -Action Figure 973 alongside Producer -DiMaggio and together they drop this 9 track project featuring both -067Red -Brother Tom SOS Now something I want to mention (because it’s fascinating to me) the sole two features he brought on this one was same two men who he did EP’s for that I covered! So it’s a cool full circle type deal that I found interesting! So let’s start with the MC work first. Again as shown in the intro Action is back with more fun, action packed bars that are filled with his unique brand of brash, arrogant and pop culture blends of lyricism that make each verse of his feel like a fever dream! Even his first line (after the intro track) is ‘Behind my mask probably one of the most beautiful -N’s you’ve ever seen! Who the fuck starts a record like that? HE DOES and I’m grateful for it! We hear equally insanely outrageous lines that’s filled with smooth flows and sharp punctuation that makes him a must listen to rapper (as if you didn’t know) I also love his cocky laugh he adds at the end of his bars to make you feel that much more convinced you’ve listened to a dope bar! I feel with each new release he only gets more confident and stronger which in turn makes his verses feel heavier and more compelling! His chemistry with 067Red is well documented at this point and once again they prove to provide a strong balance of energy and badass vocals between them! I don’t remember hearing Action with Brother Tom prior but even they feel strong on the track together! But as was proven plenty in the past, he’s more than capable of rocking an album all by himself! A true beast on the album! I find the track -KEN GRIFFEY WAS NEVER A YANKEE interesting because I know nothing about baseball and so I’m just vibing off strong delivery and fantastic raw beat! But this track could give me the excuse to finally check out Baseball! When discussing the production, as I covered his last two short EPs it’s good to see what he’s capable of doing under a bigger and longer project. Honestly this one feels like his most grand and powerhouse album yet! Let’s discuss some of the tracks! Firstly we have ones like -SHOWDOWN at SHEA as we hear DiMaggio coming in with those slow paced piano keys with a second layered of keys in that haunting heavy tone! There’s also some thick bass and some of the most methodical drums I’ve heard yet! A stripped back track that lets Action talk his shit in the forefront of the track! There’s tracks like -LOU GEHRIG’S DISEASE as we are hit with this truly menacing vocal snippets that sound like a dying person wailing it’s scary as fuck (I hate that sound) so gave me chills! It’s in two different tones as well that got to me! But besides that we have those shimmering piano keys, plucked bass and some more rhythmic drum patterns compared to the last one that helps give this track some texture! I appreciate how it ends with that clipping of that infamous Sopranos line referring to the disease! If you know you know The track -Butch Husky is also a fantastic track as it’s one of the more mellow beats you’ve heard on the album. From those lavish plucked strings combined with those second layered quick shimmering strings that’s combined with some funky and lively drum beats that later comes in with some theatrical violin strings! So 3 different strings in one track. Only someone as create as Maggio could pull that off! Once again, another dope record by both involved! Of course no question about the features involved. Make sure you don’t miss out!
