It’s been a minute since this producer last dropped his epic 4 part series featuring the most crucial names in the underground today. Since then he’s been on ice until now. Back stronger than ever with a MC I’m not that familiar with and yet I had a feeling this would be a strong record! Let’s talk about it! This is the brand new album by MC -Blaze 5th and Producer -KHEYZINE and together they drop this 10 track record with -POSTMAN. L as the sole feature! Let’s start with the production aspect because if there’s one thing you can count on in the underground it’s KHEYZINE dropping a set of dope tracks and instrumentals for the culture to enjoy and this one doesn’t disappoint! We get a variety of strong bangers to abrasive stripped back loops to down to earth gritty boom inspired tracks with everything in between! For example tracks like -10 In Rotation which showcases the more ‘abrupt’ side I was mentioning above. You’ve got that vocal snippet that loops around the track every 3-4 seconds. This is accompanied by some soulful piano keys and droning bass strings with some Jazz style drum work! Although there’s a lot of eccentric instruments it feels more ‘raw & gritty’ due to that vocal harmony! Almost WSG style! I also swear I hear some subtle flute in the background! There’s tracks like -Black Velvet which again utilises a loop but this time it’s a gorgeous classical Jazz effort with a few different layers. From that opening interlude that sounds like a theatrical harmony that evolves into this beautiful Jazz horn loop that also is accompanied by some sharp violin in the background and a tad bit of a vocal snippet and methodical drums! This one feels ripped from the 1950’s and I loved every second of it! Or how about the track -Luz Divina which has one of the most hypnotic beats I’ve heard from KHEYZINE yet! This one has what sounds like this distorted xylophone sample that’s looped across this track alongside those heavy guitar strings that has some deadly drums and some eventual violin strings to further compliment the track! A truly powerful offering! As we discuss the MC side of things we talk about a man who does a good job at making his presence not only known and strong but blend with the various beats provided! Locking in with his own blend of speeds, tones and performances for all the different tracks in a way that I feel will gain him a fair amount of attention! Let’s talk about why! Firstly let’s discuss his range. By this I mean that depending on the track you could hear him rap incredibly methodically. On others a bit more upbeat and fast paced, others a more free lance ‘splash’ approach. He tailors his performances based on the instrumental at hand which is always dope and refreshing to see someone understand the need for variety track to track, beat to beat! Was good! Secondly, I love how he blends in the different lyrical topics. From street poetry to personal stories to descriptions of his life situations. It seems he has a talent for making every sentence feel important and note worthy like an elite story teller and narrator leaving you on the edge! His cold blooded demeanour mixed with his strong lyricism and flow makes for the best combination on this record amplifying the instrumentals 10x fold! As far as the sole feature goes, someone I’ve had no experience prior to this but he does a good job matching energy with Blaze and creating a sustainable chemistry for the duration of the track! Definitely a solid vibe. So, what did you think about this album? Have you checked it out yet? Let me know!
